Lazio are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez in the summer and are keeping close tabs on him.

The £10million-rated winger has impressed for the Magpies since joining the club in 2008 and according to IMScouting, the Serie A side are preparing to make a bid for the Argentina international.

Lazio chief Claudio Lotito is reportedly a big fan of the 28-year-old and is keen on luring him to Rome when the transfer windows opens again in the summer.

Lazio have won their first victory away from home since October. Goals either side of halftime from forwards Alvaro Gonzalez and Libor Kozak kept Lazio in third spot, seven points behind leaders AC Milan who won on Saturday.

A double from Antonio Di Natale, his 17th and 18th of the season, helped Udinese triumph 3-0 at Cesena to go fifth while there were convincing home wins for Cagliari and Sampdoria, 4-1 and 3-1 over Chievo Verona and Bologna respectively.

Lazio and the Napoli are reportedly discussing deals to swap players in the January transfer window deadline. Lazio President Claudio Lotito is hoping to receive a concrete offer in order to see the deal occur. He stated that the teams are looking for a solution to the benefit of all parties: “We are ready to make the players happy.”

Both sides are eyeing a spot in the Champions League for season 2011/12 and are looking to strengthen in required areas. Both teams are currently tied in second spot, seven points behind leaders Milan though Napoli do have a game in hand.

David Trezeguet's proposed move to Lazio is very unlikely to take place after recent revelations. The Aquile have been linked with the 33-year-old hitman, who seems destined to leave the Alicante-based club as they are reportedly having problems paying player wages.

However, Caliendo is open to a return, but made it clear heading to Lazio would be a complicated issue.

"I don't exclude an Italian return, but I don't feel it is possible for him to join Lazio," the agent told Lalaziosiamonoi.it.

Lazio president Lotito has once again insisted that nothing has been agreed with Man City to sign striker Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is said to be putting the final touches on a loan move to the Rome club.

But Lotito insisted last night: "I've taken note of the player's desire to join the club on a temporary basis, but the talks are continuing and growing.

"We are aware and we believe something could be done. "

The Juventus coach Del Neri has played down the importance of the match between Lazio and Juventus. Lazio and Juventus occupy third and fourth place respectively in Serie A - with the former three points ahead of their Sunday opponents.

The Romans have been in a rich vein of form this season with a 3-1 win over Inter Milan last weekend ample evidence of their potential. While pundits are casting their clash with the Bianconeri a pivotal point in the season, Juve coach Del Neri does not think so.

Lazio boss Reja has said that he is more than happy with the current second place for the club. The Biancocelesti were the surprise Serie A leaders, but now that they are ‘only’ in second place, the media is more focused on other sides.

“We don’t fit in with the important clubs and evidently the media consider us to be smaller compared with Inter, Milan, Juventus and Roma,” said Reja.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has denied rumours linking Zarate with Spurs. The Argentine striker has been consistently linked with a host of Europe's top clubs after becoming one of the Rome-based side's key players.

Despite Spurs' significant squad size, Harry Redknapp may consider reinforcing his forward line. However Zarate, who had a successful spell with Birmingham in 2008, is not up for sale according to Lotito.

Lazio have switched their attentions to Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz after giving up on Juventus' David Trezeguet. Il Corriere dello Sport reports that Lazio have reached an agreement with City based on a loan with the option to buy the player at €8 million [£6.56m] when the deal expires.

Santa Cruz earns around €2m [£1.64m] per annum but Lazio want City to cover some of that during the loan - a detail that has held up the move, allowing Fiorentina and Newcastle United the chance to move into the equation.

Lazio have made an official bid for highly rated Brazilian Hernanes. The 25-year-old is a product of the Brazilian club's academy and Lazio are keen on bringing him to the Stadio Olimpico.

Hernanes has been linked to the Biancocelesti as well as Serie A rivals AC Milan, and is thought to be valued at €10million (£8.4m).

His agent Joseph Lee told La Repubblica: "There is an offer from Lazio and it is serious and I know that San Paolo is considering in the coming days and will decide what to do."
