MANCHESTER UNITED OPEN TALKS FOR LAZIO MIDFIELDER

Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly started contract talks with Italian Serie outfit Lazio over the potential transfer of midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. United have been courting the renowned midfield superstar over the last couple of transfer windows, but have not been able to reach an agreement with the player's club to finalize the transfer.

Milinkovic-Savic, 26, has continued to be a star performer for his club this season and is also currently in fine form. He has also continued from where he stopped last season and has already had a hand in 19 direct goal contributions so far this campaign (11 assists and 8 goals) in only 37 appearances so far. That's a great return from a midfielder, and it explains just why United have been tracking him for more than two years now.

Although he still has a little over three years left in his current Lazio contract, the midfielder has not stopped making transfer headlines and is still being pursued by a couple of other clubs across Europe, including Lazio's League rivals Napoli and Inter Milan.

Italian-based journalist Jonathan Shrager has recently reported that Manchester United have been long admiring him and may well make a move for him this summer as it could be the final chance they have to complete his signing.

Lazio are said to be uninterested in selling their star midfielder, especially given the fact that the Serbia international midfielder has been very important for the club in recent years, a fact which is very evident in the sense that he has had a total hand in 85 goals in 243 games (38 assists and 47 goals) since making his debut for the club after signing from Genk back in 2015.

United manager Olé Gunnar Solksjær would love to have the player arrive at Old Trafford in the summer but it all depends on whether Lazio will agree to sell.
