Simone Pepe scored a vital goal for Juventus, as they managed to beat Lazio 1-0 to go top of the table. The important victory gives a much-needed breathing space for Juventus between them and Lazio.

Lazio were seen as one of the sides expected to challenge Juventus at the top of the table, but this defeat now means that they are three points behind Juventus having played a game more, effectively putting them six points behind Juventus - which is a massive difference to make up going into the rest of the season.

Simone Pepe scored in the 34th minute to give Juventus the lead and it stayed that way till the end of the match. Despite managing to beat most of their opponents, Juventus have still not pulled away from the chasing pack. They lead AC Milan by just one point, although they have played a game less. Juventus could be looking at a maximum of just four points lead over the chasing pack at the top of the table. This is something that they would like to improve and they have a great chance of doing so given that they do not have the distraction of the Champions League.

Juventus manager Antonio Conte said, "We are very happy - we won a game against what was a very strong team. Lazio will fight until the end for one of the top spots. We have a lot to improve on, but we're happy. We were always dangerous in the match and never stopped looking for a second goal. It showed our maturity and even though we suffered, we still managed to win."

Juventus will face Napoli on Tuesday, which will provide them with the opportunity to play their game in hand. This should give a more accurate picture of their position in the table.
