Gennaro Gattuso insists AC Milan’s recent success has involved teamwork

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has said that the club’s success over the past month has involved teamwork rather than the performances of Lucas Paqueta and Krzysztof Piatek alone. The duo joined the Rossoneri on winter moves from Flamengo and Genoa respectively and they have since contributed notably to the team’s league form.

Speaking to Milan TV, Gattuso said that he was impressed with the showing of both Paqueta and Piatek but the credit for the recent success should be given to the entire squad, he said: "The credit should not only go to Piatek and Paqueta but to the team, as well as to be given credit for the whole group for the performances in the field. The enthusiasm of the fans, however, makes us very happy, we will have to be good to keep it high and then we'll see where we'll get from there."

“Both Paqueta and Piatek have quickly integrated into the team following their January moves and the latter has been more efficient, given he has been tasked with the role of leading the line. The Poland international had already shone for Genoa with 19 goals during the first “half of the season and he has continued with the same form for the Rossoneri with seven strikes from the opening six matches.

As a result, the Milan giants have managed to maintain the fourth position on the standings ahead of AS Roma and most recently, they have made ground on cross-town rivals Inter Milan, who have dropped off the pace. Nonetheless, they need to continue with the same consistency during the forthcoming months, given they are just one point ahead of Roma in the race for the final Champions League spot. Meanwhile, Inter are just two points ahead of Milan and they need to buck the recent trend or else they could come under pressure from Roma.
