David de Gea was globally considered as the best shot stopper in the world, but the last 18 months have been a very testing and enduring one for the Manchester United number one. He has suffered a massive dip in form, costing his team precious points. The latest among his poor displays was his howler against Everton.

What appears to be a routine pass out from the back, but the Spaniard took all the time in the world and allowed Dominic Calvert Lewin to close him down. De Gea shot directly into the leg of the attacker giving Everton a three-minute lead. He put his team under unneeded pressure as the Red Devils could only leave Goodison park with a solitary point.

The loss of form could be attributed to confidence or other unrelated issues, but it is obvious De Gea is a shadow of his former self, he has also lost his number one status at international level to Kepa Arrizabalaga. Arrizabalaga is also not having a good season by any standard but he is a discussion for another day.
Stat merchant, Opta, pointed out after the horror show against Everton that, De Gea has made seven errors leading directly to goals since the start of last season, it is also the most by any player in the division.
That being said, David De Gea is not solely responsible for the woes of Manchester United, as other players have also been below required standard.

Former United midfielder Luiz Nani has also come to the defense of his old teammates, he stated that the backline is not helping the Spaniard. He declared that the team is not defending well as a unit, and thereby exposing the goalkeeper.
His argument might be right, but De Gea needs to do self-assessment and take full responsibilities of his poor display.
