Lazio manager Edy Reja has expressed his confidence that the club will be able to qualify for the Europa league despite the significant advantage that Inter Milan possess within the last few weeks of the season.
Only the top five teams are capable of qualifying for the European competitions. Inter currently occupy the final fifth place with 55 points on the board. After a change in management in the last few months, Lazio have been picking up form. Reja says that he does not doubt that the club will be able to put up a challenge for the top five in the rest of the season.
Lazio are the team with momentum in the race for the top five, which includes clubs like Inter Milan, Parma, and Atalanta. Lazio have won three out of the last five matches, although Atalanta have managed four in the last five. This has helped them close the gap to Lazio to just two points. Ahead of the match with Sampdoria, Reja says that his team have a couple of injury problems. Federico Marchetti will be one of the first names to miss out on this match due to a muscular problem. He says that the possibility of the player returning for the next match is also doubtful.
“We are behind, but almost all our remaining games are head-to-heads with teams involved in the European chase. There are four home matches we absolutely cannot get wrong. We are determined and will take it one game at a time. We must beat Samp, who are a young side with a Coach who has given them a lot of confidence. We have the utmost respect for our opponents. Now we’ve got the style of football, the right mentality and a positive approach,” said Reja ahead of the Sampdoria encounter.
