Lazio failed to make the most out of the match against Hellas Verona after only drawing 3-3 against relegation threatened outfit. This meant that, they are now facing the prospect of missing out on European football. Despite this, manager Edy Reja has stated that he is confident that the club will be able to secure the Europa league spot in the remaining one match of the season. For most of the match it looked like Lazio would suffer a shock defeat, but Stefano Mauri scored a late goal to secure a point for his team. However, it may not be enough given that there are less matches to catch Inter Milan.
Lazio are four points behind Inter Milan, who occupy the final Europa league qualifying spot. There are two matches left in the season. The poor form of Inter over the last couple of weeks has given the likes of Lazio and Milan a lot of confidence that they could finish in the fifth place. AC Milan have managed seven wins in the last eight matches. It has been a major reason behind the club moving into the eighth place – just three points behind Inter Milan. Europa league football will be massively important for Lazio, as they have just witnessed Roma returning to the Champions League.
"We still believe in Europe. It often happens that we go in front and can't maintain a lead. Perhaps it's a drop in concentration levels, we always make a few mistakes. The draw is no good to either team. A side like ours can’t be scoring three goals and conceding just as many. We should've made Verona fight harder for their goals. We were getting close, but never made that definitive step up in quality,” said the manager, whose team take on Inter Milan in the next match.
