Lazio not only put behind the disappointing opening day defeat against AC Milan but they also got their first win of the season against Cesena during the weekend. The 3-0 victory sees Lazio up and running in Italian Serie A for the season. Speaking after the match, new Lazio manager Stefano Pioli says that the entire team at the club are committed towards improving the results in order to satisfy the fans. Lazio fans are known as one of the most demanding especially due to the intense rivalry with Roma. The fact that Roma have been doing well in the league in the last 12 months has only intensified the need for Lazio to do well.
A 3-1 defeat against AC Milan on opening day spelled trouble for the club. There are concerns that this season would also go down the same fashion as last season. After looking like being in contention for a Champions League place for much of last season a poor form towards the end of the campaign resulted in Lazio finishing in a lowly ninth place. As a result, they are without any form of European football for this season, but this could also benefit them indirectly since they do not have any other distractions. Lazio’s next match is against Genoa away from home.
“Our fans have been showing great passion and enthusiasm. Now it’s up to us to repay them by showing them what we’re made of. Living in Rome you can feel this passion and the faith shown in this shirt. We didn’t start the way we wanted, because the meeting with Milan did not reward us, but the team is there. The fans expect the facts and we are working for this, we hope to make them happy,” said the Lazio manager after the win over Cesena.
